🌴 About Leah T. Williams
Caribbean stories. Young voices. Real life.
🌟 Why Reviews Matter
If you've read one of my books and it stayed with you — even for just a moment — leaving a review helps more than you know.
Reviews aren’t just about stars or ratings. They help indie authors like me reach new readers, librarians, and educators. They tell the algorithm, “Hey, this story matters.” And they tell me that the words made it to someone who needed them.
Even a single sentence — “I loved this!” or “This reminded me of home” — goes a long way.

✍️ What I Write
I write novels that blend emotion, culture, and voice — books rooted in home, heritage, and hope. I love characters who are figuring it out in the middle of the mess. I love poetic language, unexpected humor, and moments that make you say, “I’ve felt that.”
My books include:
Where the Guava Tree Stands — a novel-in-verse about migration, memory, and identity
Neither Out Far Nor In Deep — a Caribbean coming-of-age story about finding your roots
Where Is Noemi — a YA mystery about sisterhood and secrets
Sweet Like Sugarcane (coming June 1) — a prequel about young love and legacy
💬 Why These Stories
Because some kids don’t just need books — they need mirrors. They need to see their accents, their big families, their questions, their silences, their skin, their countries, and their stubbornness on the page.
I write these stories because I grew up surrounded by storytellers — aunties, teachers, neighbors, and cousins who could take a walk to the corner and turn it into an epic tale. I write for the kids who’ve just moved, for the ones who are still figuring out where they belong, and for the ones who know exactly who they are but keep being told otherwise.
These stories are filled with guava trees, jumbie tales, track meets, porridge, prayer, and complicated families — because that’s what real life looks like. And I want young people to know that their real life is worth writing down.
🍎 For Educators & Book Clubs
As a middle school ELA teacher and college professor, I know what it means to bring stories into the classroom that actually connect. I’m currently working on lesson plans, reading guides, and writing activities to pair with each of my books — and I can’t wait to share them with you.
If you’re a teacher, librarian, or book club leader and would like to collaborate, request an author visit, or just ask a few questions, feel free to reach out.

🌺 Where I’m From
I was born and raised on the island of St. Kitts, surrounded by sunshine, stories, and a whole lot of family. I come from a big, beautiful island clan — the kind where cousins feel like siblings, stories are passed down with laughter, and no one ever eats alone.
My mother shaped little minds and big futures with a quiet kind of magic — the kind that doesn’t ask for recognition but leaves a lasting mark. My father is a calm force — thoughtful, generous, and the kind of man who turns saltfish and bread into memory. From them, I learned how to lead with love, move with grace, and always come back to where I started.
These days, I live in Florida — but the island isn’t behind me. It travels with me. In the rhythm of my words. In the roots of every story. In the way I write about home like it’s a person you never stop loving.
🌞 A Few Fun Things About Me
I will unapologetically sit in a guava tree and eat until someone comes looking for me. And even then, I might pretend not to hear.
Sugar cane? That was my after-school snack growing up. Kadeem's not the only one who walked home peeling bark with his teeth.
My favorite kind of movie is the one I watch alone in a nearly empty theater — just me, a tub of popcorn, and the actors pretending they don’t see me nodding along to every dramatic monologue.
I haven’t taught kindergarten, but I’ve taught everyone else — from third graders to college freshmen. The stories (and side-eyes) only get funnier with age.
I still believe some stories don’t need to be told out loud — they just need to be written well enough that someone, somewhere, whispers “same.”
📬 Let’s Connect
I love hearing from readers, teachers, librarians, and fellow writers. Whether you’re reaching out about a school visit, a book club discussion, or just want to say, “I saw that guava tree moment too” — I’m here for it.
